Many of the world’s top dirtbike athletes like Ken Roczen, Ryan Villapoto and Travis Pastrana own stand up Jet Skis. Many of them not only enjoy having fun riding on the water but also use their Jet Skis as a cross-training tool to improve their riding technique, balance and endurance. I had the pleasure of talking with the current Supercross 250 class points leader, Marvin Musquin on how he feels about the dirtbike’s aquatic counter-part.
Motor Action Media: Marvin, I understand that you have a stand up Jet Ski that you enjoy riding, could you tell me a little about it?
I bought my SX-R a couple years ago, and started riding it. I started getting better and better, and was just having so much fun. When you can control that stand up Jet Ski, it’s a great feeling. And being on the water, I love being on the water!
MAM: I know that a lot of Supercross guys are using Jet Skis as a cross training tool, have you ever considered trying that?
I haven’t really considering racing my Jet Ski, or using it as a cross training tool yet, mainly because it does not have brakes! [Laughs]
MAM: I’m sure you have been very busy here lately! When is the next time you might take your Jet Ski out?
When I am racing like this, every weekend, and also training, it’s hard sometimes to have hobbies. Right now, I haven’t ridden my Jet Ski in a while, but now that we will get a break I am hoping to get it out and have some fun.
MAM: Have you noticed any similarities between your dirtbike and your Jet Ski?
When you are standing up and leaning, this is very similar. The handlebars are also the same, but the handle pole moves on the stand up – that is a little bit weird at first! But then you get used to it. But the overall position between the two is the same as a dirtbike, so it’s really cool and very different. And like I said, I love the water. And when you can ride that thing [Jet Ski] and do pretty much whatever you want on it, it’s a lot of fun.
