At the 2015 IJSBA World Finals, two junior riders were awarded the MotorActionMedia.com Social Media award. These young riders were recognized for their passion for their sport, and for doing an excellent job of promoting the sport positively and professionally on the internet. As a part of the award, MotorActionMedia.com interviewed both junior riders. Learn more about little firecracker, Stevie Bascom.
Stevie, could you tell me how you got started in Jet Ski Racing? Who got you involved?
When I was younger I rode a 750. I always told my dad I wasn’t going to race it, but I actually liked my 750 more than my dads 800. One day my dad signed me up for my first race in Havasu and that’s where it all started!
I understand you competed at the 2015 World Finals, was that your first World Finals? What was that experience like for you?
Yes, this was my first World Finals, and let me tell you it was a battlefield! I crashed twice, and my lanyard popped out, so it could’ve done better. I am just so blessed I compete at the 2015 IJSBA World Finals.
What was your favorite memory from the 2015 World Finals?
My favorite memory from the 2015 IJSBA World Finals was seeing my sister because she came out from California to watch me and I was really excited to see here because I haven’t seen her in a while! Also, crossing the finish line was a huge relief!
Do you have any role models? Who are they, and why?
My role model is my sister Hayley Bascom, because she is always there for me when I need her even though she is far away. My other role model is my dad, Duane Bascom, because he got me into Jet Skiing and he cares for me every day! I also look up to Anna Glennon, Brock Austin and Mark Gomez, they are such experienced racers and they inspire me so much!
What are your goals for the future?
My future goals are to get in the top 5 or 10 because then I could really make my sponsors proud!
Are you going to race next year? What’s your plan?
Yes, I’m going to be racing the 2016 IJSBA World Finals and all the races between to try and win a world title!
I understand that your dad also races, what’s it like being able to ride and practice with him?
It is amazing practicing with my father because it gives us time to bond and have some father-daughter time. Also I love racing with him because no matter what place we got, we were together!
You received the MotorActionMedia.com Social Media award. Why do you think it’s important to represent Jet Skiing positively on your social media?
I think it’s important to post positive things about Jet Skiing to make my sponsors happy and to have a positive attitude when representing their company! It’s also important to be a good role model for the next generation of Jet Ski riders.
What do you plan on doing with your brand new Go Pro Hero Session, that was a part of your MotorActionMedia.com Social Media award prize?
I’m planning on making some rad Jet Ski videos to post on my YouTube Channel to hopefully get some more fans!
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I’d like to thank all my sponsors and Anna Glennon from MotorActionMedia.com, for giving me this award. And I’d like to thank my father because he helped me get into the sport. It’s so awesome to be able to Jet Ski and race with my good friends!
MotorActionMedia.com recognizes the efforts of the young Junior riders who are doing an incredible job of representing our sport. We want to congratulate Stevie for her professional and positive attitude.
