SUNDAY SCOOP: Week of June 1

Motor Action Media gives you a week’s worth of action-packed personal watercraft news in one spot. Catch up on what happened the week of May 4.

CANCELLED: The Pro Watercross National tour informed racers earlier this week that the Lewisville, TX tour stop “The Liberty Cup” has been cancelled due to the flooding rain. In an official release, staff stated, “Pro Watercross Tour was to make its first visit to North Texas for the event. The annual tour visits lakes and beaches across the country each summer. It is the featured national tour for personal watercraft racing, combining the finest professional and amateur athletes in the United States and internationally for extreme racing on challenging closed courses. Tour events draw thousands of spectators on site, plus millions more for television and online video broadcasts.” With the cancellation of the Liberty Cup, racers will continue on to Lake Hartwell, GA following the tour stop in Utah.

DIABLO JETSKI ACTION: The DJSA racing series held another round in Mossdale Lakes (Lathrop, CA) over the weekend. Hundreds of racers and spectators were in attendance, and an epic show was put on. An exciting and stacked Juniors class was a major highlight of a weekend’s worth of racing. The next DJSA race will be at Camp Far West in Wheatland, CA. HURRICANES IN KANSAS: Bill “Hurricane” Haig, legendary Jet Ski racer, was spotted in Kansas over the weekend. He met up with some of the local talent for some buoy bashing on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Clinton Lake had such a rise in water levels that there was a new “beach”, which was packed with Jetskis. Some of the riders who showed up to hang out included: Jeff Wright and his protege, Junior racer Jacob Hunsperger, Chris Cowan, The Jet Girls Anna and Jessie Glennon as well as the Boss Man, Jeremy Styno and Justin and AJ Luinstra.

IFWA WORLD TAKEOVER CONTINUES: Participants of the IFWA World Tour gravitated to Newquay, UK for the final stop to the European leg of the freeride tour. Beautiful scenery did not overshadow the awesome talent that showed to compete in Newquay, with riders like Mark Gomez, Abraham Ho, Mick Anthony, Jason Bleasdale and more. After an intense two days of bracket-style battling, Mick Anthony edged out Mark Gomez for the overall win.

unnamedBLYTHE BOUND SMACK DOWN: Impros put on yet another successful Blythe Bound Smackdown (BBSD) over the weekend, this year in honor of Gary Hart — creator of the legendary Jettrim. This event drew in hundreds of people, including some of the sport’s icons: Chris “The Flyin’ Fish” Fishchetti, Victor “The Slasher” Sheldon, “Wild” Bill Pointer, Tommy “The Bomber” Bonacci, and Chris Hagest, as well as many other racers.
